I’ve been asked so many times why I don’t work in a schools or take large private groups. It is true you make more money working with larger groups but if you really want to make a difference, it takes a personal touch.
Why are individual lessons with a native so much better?
Learning English with a native gives you so much more than a conventional lesson in school. Because it is Individual, the focus is 100% on you. The teacher knows your level, your faults and your strengths. There is complete attention so you can grow at a pace you dictate, and if you need extra help with something…. You don’t need to ask, a good native teacher will already know.
It’s like jumping in the deep end with nowhere to run or hide. You need to be all-in, focused and ready. You’ll find you yourself listening more, working harder, and pushing yourself more. It may sounds silly, but a bond grows between yourself and the native, you can find yourself trying even harder with your English so not disappoint.
During an individual conversation class, you will stop looking at yourself as a student, but more as a person that speaks English and is trying to improve it. The direction takes on fresh emphasis as the conversation speed, topic and depth touch surfaces a normal classroom setting can only wonder about.
How do I know this?
When I tried to learn Polish I’ve tried group classes, private lessons and self-teaching. Then I tried them all again in reverse order. 🙂
The private individual classes gave me the best of all, without the negatives and is my preferred method of learning Polish today.
